BurnSync privacy
Updated October 3, 2026
BurnSync is a nutrition and activity journal from Ryan Uher.
What stays on your device
Food logs, weight, calorie burn, activity, goals, profile details and preferences are saved on your device. The iPhone and iPad app also uses native app storage to protect logs from browser storage cleanup. There is no BurnSync account or automatic sync between devices in this build. Deleting the app can remove its local data. Device backups are controlled by your Apple settings.
If you explicitly connect Apple Health, BurnSync can read the activity information you authorize. Health imports stay on your device and are excluded from AI requests and exported backups. Optional Health sharing writes only the nutrition and weight you select. You can also enter wearable values manually. BurnSync includes no advertising or third-party analytics SDKs.
Optional AI sharing
Manual logging works without AI. Before using AI, you choose whether to share data with OpenAI. Depending on the feature you use, this can include:
- Your messages and relevant food, weight, activity, calorie burn, goal and profile details (such as age, height and sex) for coaching.
- Food queries, meal photos and your notes for nutrition estimates.
- A photo and weight details you submit for an optional goal illustration.
- Microphone audio during a live voice coaching session.
- Text displayed in the interface when a translation is missing from the bundled dictionary. That text can include values displayed in the app.
Requests pass through our Netlify service to OpenAI. Live voice audio travels to OpenAI during the active connection. Providers receive network information such as IP addresses and may retain service, security and abuse-monitoring records under their policies. Disabling saved Responses API output in our requests does not mean all provider retention is disabled.
See OpenAI’s API data controls and Netlify’s privacy notice. BurnSync does not sell your health information or use it for advertising.
Subscription and service records
Apple processes subscription payments; BurnSync does not receive your card details. When subscriptions are enabled, the app sends Apple-signed purchase information to our Netlify backend to verify access with Apple. We use a hashed purchase identifier and usage counters to enforce service allowances across devices and reinstalls. These records contain no journal content. Purchase proof is held in app memory while running. Apple and hosting providers may retain transaction and operational records under their policies. Deleting local journal data does not cancel a subscription or reset service allowances.
Your controls
Use More → AI privacy to turn sharing off. This blocks new AI requests and ends live voice. Voice also stops when you leave or background the app. Camera and microphone permission can be changed in iOS Settings. Only photos you choose or take for a feature are submitted.
More → Export backup lets you save a copy of your journal. Only share that file with people or services you trust. More → Delete all data removes this app’s local journal, preferences, translation caches and AI permission on this device. It does not delete copies you exported, device backups or information already processed by service providers.
Support and privacy requests
Contact Ryan Uher at ryan@burnsync.com for support or privacy questions. Support emails contain the information you choose to send and are used to respond to your request. Avoid including personal health information that is not needed to explain your question. Do not send passwords, payment card details or Apple verification codes.
For beta users, Apple processes TestFlight installation, crash and feedback information under its own policies. You can also contact the developer through BurnSync’s TestFlight feedback option.
AI estimates can be wrong. BurnSync is a personal tracking tool and does not diagnose, treat, or replace professional medical advice. Goal illustrations are hypothetical and do not predict results.
